United Water employs over 450 people and is committed to providing a safe
and healthy working environment. We strive to provide the best internal working
environment possible. The establishment of training programs to support and
enhance employee skills and abilities is a high priority. Employees, managers and
supervisors are also encouraged to devise, establish and use safe systems of work.
The development and use of practical hazard, prevention and control strategies
integrated into day-to-day work is seen as the best way to manage the many hazards
experienced in the water industry.
Our health and safety program is supported by a comprehensive training and
development program. All employees are assigned to a training pathway involving
business, OH&S and skill training requirements. Staff development includes a
succession planning program as well as a range of elective training and education
opportunities. We have established training and development plans for all employees,
including an in-house management development program.
Our international exchange and mentoring program has seen a number of operations
and administrative staff spend time in United Water and Thames Water facilities in
the UK, France New Zealand and Australia. This has resulted in a positive transfer
of technology and skills.
