A word from our Chairman
The challenges faced in the water industry have never been greater.
The drought continues in Australia and parts of New Zealand, with strict water restrictions applying in two of our contract areas, focusing public and media attention like never before.
The need for the right solutions to sustain us in the years ahead is being discussed with equal vigour among politicians and industry professionals, and by families and friends at the dinner table .
For United Water, the pressure is on to deliver under the watchful eyes of our clients and the public, and I am delighted to say that our dedicated teams in Australia and New Zealand are meeting our performance targets and leading the company into the most successful period in our history.
We are winning new contracts in Australia and New Zealand, and taking a leading role in delivering critically important, multi-million dollar water infrastructure projects.
United Water’s success has been built on our core business of water and wastewater treatment and networks management, serving more than 1.5 million people across eleven contracts in two countries. In addition, we are demonstrating in-house technical expertise in wastewater recycling, dual-reticulation and aquifer harvesting, and leveraging the unmatched global experience of our parent company Veolia Water.
We continue to prove the value of private sector involvement in water, employing our specialist knowledge and experience to deliver better services and infrastructure whilst leaving ownership of the assets we manage in the hands of our clients and the community.
United Water is sharing its success through a commitment to economic development and community participation. Following through on a promise to the South Australian Government, United Water has worked to encourage the growth of the State’s water industry, facilitating more than $730 million worth of net export opportunities for local companies.
The company is also sharing its success through an increased level of sponsorship and community involvement across all contract areas, particularly in New Zealand where we now work in partnership with seven local councils.
In a challenging time for the water industry, United Water is ideally placed to help governments and water authorities guarantee future water supplies, cater for future population growth, and deliver solutions for efficient use and reuse of water and wastewater.
United Water will work closely with our clients and relevant authorities to meet these challenges, turning expertise into action to deliver water security.
